The Ferns of South Tyrol
In addition to the general collection of the flora of South Tyrol, since 2000, efforts have concentrated on surveying the region's pteriodophytes (ferns). This was motivated in part by the super-regional project "Atlante corologico delle Pteridofite nell'Italia nordorientale" (www.museocivico.rovereto.tn.it), in which the Museum of Nature is actively involved. Reinhold Beck (of Esslingen) is supervising the documentation of the fern flora of South Tyrol. The goal is to determine the distribution to not only of species, but also of subspecies and hybrids. The results of the mapping and the accompanying photographic documentation are leading to a publication (Winter 2006/2007).
