Until recently, South Tyrol was one of the few regions of Central Europe where no Red List of endangered plants were available. This gap was filled, at least for the vascular plants, in 2006. However, red lists ought not to be considered as concluded projects and, hence, new editions are planned regularly after intervals of 5 to 10 years.
